On Tuesday, the Cuban government announced new relaxations for the transfer, import, and sale of vehicles, as part of the recently approved economic and social reforms.

The provisions, published in Official Gazette No. 64, include Decree-Law 122 and Decree 163, as well as resolutions regarding importers, dealerships, prices, taxes, and technical requirements.

Among the changes is the elimination of the limit on acquiring six vehicles in five years, which expands the possibilities for individuals and legal entities at authorized dealerships.

Cuban personnel on official missions abroad may acquire or import vehicles with up to eight passengers from any authorized dealership, including those from third countries.

Another important measure is the exemption from the special sales tax for electric vehicles purchased alongside charging stations powered by renewable energy sources, in addition to tax reductions for buses and minibuses, thus supporting the recovery of public transportation.

The regulations also allow foreigners with temporary or permanent residency to purchase vehicles, and the direct import of combustion-engine tricycles up to 250 cc and electric vehicles with renewable energy charging systems.
