What was completely predictable, too, was what we’re seeing now in global banking systems. When Washington and Brussels froze, then seized, Russian FX reserves in Western banks, and banned Russian companies from using the SWIFT system, countries across the world understood that the same thing could happen to them, at any time, and the race was on to develop alternative systems of global trade finance, which could not be sanctioned by Western regulators.

The report came as Turkish media claimed an extension agreement has been made. “There were no discussions between Iran and the US to extend their ceasefire,” Reuters reported, citing “Iranian sources.”

That report reveals many mechanisms that are used to manipulate the press: headlines and front pages agreed upon with the Canahuati family—owners of the country’s two main newspapers, La Prensa and El Heraldo; extended contracts for television programs; over 100 journalists placed on the payroll “as advisors;” and a shell company to hide the activities of those who have been bribed.

According to the recording, many of these journalists were allegedly provided by Dagoberto Rodríguez, twice president of the Honduran Journalists Association, and a journalist aligned with Honduran conservatism. Mejía herself admits that the plan constitutes repeating “what we did when President Juan Orlando was in office.”

The white political, intellectual, and economic elite has insisted that the fact that we established ourselves as a republic made us equal as citizens, without questioning that this same elite perpetuated social and economic hierarchies based on criteria of race, gender, and caste.

Furthermore, we Venezuelans have many times been told that we should thank the Europeans who arrived in the early decades of the twentieth century for the country’s modernization, following the selective immigration policies such as the “February Program” of 1928. These policies were grounded in scientific positivism, which ascribed the essence of civilization, progress, and culture to the “white race.”

Faced with this “truth effect” constructed over centuries, what is the logical next step that can guarantee citizenship, inclusion, and acceptance of the population? Logically, it is to mix culturally and biologically in order to become part of the nation and a modern citizen.

And if the “seed” of citizenship lay with the “white race,” as claimed by Venezuelan intellectual Arturo Uslar Pietri, then what was the implied direction of that mixing? One that privileges whiteness, of course. That is, a veiled logic toward “whitening,” which simultaneously implies a rejection of African and Indigenous identities.

I received word some days ago from Sophia Williams of the movement for Mumia, and also confirmation just yesterday from Johanna Fernández’s brother, that Johanna passed this last Thursday night, July 30, 2026.

Words come hard now. The ache is acute, as I feel the loss of a friend, a scholar, colleague and an activist who gave so much to the movement for Mumia and for justice and revolution in so many ways. One of the things she did was to rejuvenate Educators for Mumia Abu-Jamal (EMAJ), the group I founded in the mid-1990s.

“The harm to the impacted New Mexicans is not doubtful, eventual, or contingent, but an immediate, temporally connected, and highly probable result of Meta’s actions,” he continued.

“The youth mental health crisis has inflicted significant and widespread harm in New Mexico in terms of the number of youth suffering mental health harms, the profound suffering they and those in their families suffer, and the resulting interferences with the functioning of the schools, law enforcement, [and] healthcare systems in New Mexico,” the judge added.

The case centered on allegations that Meta knowingly designed and operated Facebook and Instagram in ways that exposed children to harmful content, encouraged excessive use, and failed to adequately protect minors from exploitation. New Mexico officials argued that internal company knowledge and outside warnings showed Meta was aware of risks associated with its platforms but did not act sufficiently to address them.

Most of the new fine—$420 million—will go toward funding youth treatment services, while the rest is designated for awareness and prevention, screening services, and other costs.

…It also shows that Palantir paid nothing in federal income tax in 2025, even though it would have owed USD 348 million at the standard corporate rate. This situation is unlikely to change soon. The report notes the company has declared over USD 3.5 billion in deferred tax assets – losses incurred in earlier years for which tax authorities give deductions that can be used to balance taxes on future profits. CICTAR estimated that Palantir’s deferred tax assets are so high that it might not have to pay federal taxes for nearly a decade.

The Trump administration’s policies can also help Big Tech companies minimize tax payments abroad. By analyzing annual reports and financial documentation, CICTAR demonstrated how Palantir relies on stock-based compensation and excessive profit shifting to achieve this.

Palantir makes millions from contracts in countries including the UK, France, and Germany, yet books almost all of its profits in the US, where it pays zero federal tax: over a quarter of the company’s revenue is secured outside the US, yet it books over 96% of profits there. This is quite a notable gap, suggesting it might be a way to avoid paying contributions in Europe.

Some countries are worse off than others. Britain – Palantir’s largest market outside the US, accounting for 10% of global revenue – seems to be in particularly deep trouble. The company holds at least £670 million (approximately USD 782.4 million) in UK government contracts, yet this has not translated into comparable tax payments. The tax gap noted in the report stands at £7.2 million (approximately USD 8.41 million). “This suggests that Palantir may have avoided more tax in the UK – with growing revenue from government contracts – than in any other country besides the US,” CICTAR wrote.

Other European nations also boast Palantir presence. The report identifies affiliates in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland. In many of these countries, the company has secured government deals – notably in intelligence and “defense” – though it has also provided services to financial authorities and the private sector.

Financial records indicate that many of these contracts were signed with Palantir US, while local affiliates charged for providing services to the parent company – another approach that would help obscure actual profits made in each country and reduce the tax owed…

Elsewhere in town, others seem anxious for it all to go away. Last month, an anonymous woman posted in the Senatobia UNCENSORED group. Her family was moving to Senatobia but, based on what she’d seen on the page, she worried it was a mistake. “I’ve never seen so much drama and hatred,” she said. “Please tell me it’s a good place.”

Several people sought to reassure her. “I have rarely experienced any racism or hate,” one white woman wrote. The original poster thanked her. “This eases my heart.”

These kinds of articles make me very sad. For all the issues my little community has because of poverty and other systemic issues, most of us are doing the best we can.

And they also attached the label “far left” to the name Antifa, as though being anti-fascist is somehow now beyond the pale. And in doing that, they inadvertently, I think, legitimize the government’s effort to take the First Amendment activities, to take political opinions that are anti-fascist, that are pro-democracy, that are pro-dissent, that are anti—ethnic cleansing, and make them suspect, and therefore make them vulnerable to prosecution in exactly this way.

Old timers have long used pine tar to treat intestinal worms, pluck it straight off the tree, chew, swallow. The less effective method is pine turpentine, but IDK about that as I always (mistakenly) thought it deadly to take internally.
