The prison currently holds 841 inmates: 30 women, five of whom have already been sentenced; 16 children, only one of whom has been sentenced; and 795 men, only 122 of whom have been tried The Association described the overcrowding in this prison as dramatic, as the facility is designed for 500 people. Such violations result in overcrowded cells lacking adequate ventilation and lighting, and the unhealthiness of the sanitary blocks emits foul odors. Published by the Haiti Libre online newspaper, the text specifies that some 20 inmates suffer from infectious, contagious, and skin diseases without receiving proper care.
