Forty-seven-year-old Imad Rajeh Sarhan, abducted by Zionist forces from his home while still a youth, died on Sunday at the notorious high-security Gilboa Prison.
In a joint statement, the Palestinian Commission of Detainees’ Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society revealed that Sarhan suffered prolonged harsh interrogations, systematic torture, and deliberate medical negligence, particularly in the early years of his detention.
The inhumane conditions inflicted permanent and severe damage on his health, steadily deteriorating over the many years in Zionist prisons, which included repeated periods of solitary confinement.
The prolonged imprisonment, coupled with relentless torture and systematic medical neglect, caused the prisoner to suffer from chronic heart disease, arterial and venous complications, and severe high blood pressure.
In the past year, Sarhan was forced to rely on a wheelchair due to the rapid deterioration of his health. Nevertheless, the prison administration continued to subject him to harsh and degrading conditions.
On Sunday, the Israeli authorities informed Sarhan’s family that he had died of a heart attack on Saturday, providing no further details about the circumstances of his martyrdom or his health condition prior to it.
