"We are fed up with empty promises.” Thousands of teachers took to the streets in Old San Juan on Thursday for a “March of Teachers’ Indignation” to protest unpaid wages and low pensions. The educators are demanding $94 million in teacher career ladder payments from Governor Jenniffer González’s government and better working conditions. The teachers’ protest was coordinated in part by the Puerto Rico Teachers Federation and joined by the School Bus Drivers Federation, the United Firefighters Union of Puerto Rico, the Brotherhood of Exempt Non-Teaching Employees of the University of Puerto Rico, the Workers Union of the Puerto Rican University Professors Association and the Independent Union of the Aqueduct and Sewer Authority. According to José Rosado Rolón, president of the School Bus Drivers Federation, the government owes them $9 million for services to the Puerto Rico Department of Education.
