The data are part of the InfoDengue-Mosqlimate Dengue Prediction Challenge report, which brings together researchers from different institutions to anticipate disease behavior and contribute to public health policy planning.
The study combines 22 epidemiological models developed by 27 teams, exposed the Brazil Agency.
Although the figure is the central estimate for next season, the 80% uncertainty range puts the result between 560,000 and 1.6 million.
According to experts, the peak of disease transmission should occur in April, with approximately 40,000 cases during that month.
The overall scenario resembles the behavior recorded in the last two years and does not point to an epidemic on the scale of that which occurred in 2024, when Brazil faced a record number of infections.
The researcher of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation and coordinator of InfoDengue- Mosqlimate, Claudia Codeço, warned that the projections do not mean there is reason to reduce epidemiological surveillance.
It considered that the moment requires organizing health services and intensifying preventive measures to prevent a new expansion of the disease.
The specialists suggested eliminating stagnant water reservoirs, strengthening epidemiological surveillance and acting from the identification of early infections as actions to curb dengue fever, which is transmitted by the mosquito Aedes aegypti.
