Lula said he will meet with Chief of Staff Miriam Belchior and Justice and Public Security Minister Wellington Cesar Lima e Silva to examine the initiative’s details.

The new ministry will be established through a “provisional measure,” with force of law taking effect immediately upon the president’s signing.

During a live YouTube broadcast alongside Federal Deputy Andre Janones on Thursday, the president explained that the proposal must also address the financial resources allocated for expenditures and investments in the sector.

The head of State noted, “We are going to hold the initial discussion because I intend to issue a provisional measure creating the Public Security Ministry, including deliberations on the funds to be invested.”

This decision follows the Senate’s approval, three days ago, of a Constitutional Amendment Proposal (PEC) on Public Security, submitted by the Executive.

It is one of the government’s key initiatives to expand its role in combating organized crime.
