We don’t want this lunatic to come to our country. He is a mass murderer who has initiated wars around the world, led by and benefiting the US.
Progressive groups launch 12 days of protest as the visit of US President Donald Trump to the Philippines approaches.
“Trump is not welcome here in the Philippines, he is not welcome anywhere in the world,” said International League of Peoples’ Struggles-Philippines Secretary General Arnold Padilla in a press conference on Wednesday, November 4.
Trump is scheduled to visit the Philippines on November 16 to sign the Pax Silica initiative also in time for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit.
“Under the banner of Trump Out, we shall hold daily actions ranging from rallies, indoor assemblies, public forums, pickets, concerts, teach-ins, camp-outs, and vigils aimed to express the Filipino people’s strong objection to Trump’s visit,” Bagong Allyansang Makabayan (Bayan) Chairperson Teddy Casiño said.
Casiño added in Filipino, “Trump represents the largest imperialist power, which sows war, terror, oppression, and plunder across the world. This includes military aggression against Iran, support for genocide, the imposition of economic sanctions and intervention in Venezuela, Cuba, and other countries; military escalation in the Philippines and across the Asia-Pacific; and brutal repression of immigrants and critics within his own country.”
For Ana Marie Nemenzo of the Network Opposed to Pax Silica, Trump should be declared as persona non grata and barred from entering the country.
“We don’t want this lunatic to come to our country. He is a mass murderer who has initiated wars around the world, led by and benefiting the US. This shows that imperialism remains very much alive and must be opposed because it poses a major threat to the planet and endangers the lives of ordinary people around the world,” she added.
Nemenzo said the Philippines has not been truly free. She said since the so-called independence in 1946, the Americans have kept the Philippines tied to the U.S. economy. She also criticized the presence of soldiers and its equipment in the country and urged the public to join the movement to drive U.S. military forces out of the country.
Nemenzo also added that Pax Silica will only further tie the Philippines “to an economic framework that primarily benefits powerful countries seeking access to our critical resources.”
“We know that the Philippines is among the most vulnerable countries. The loss of people’s livelihoods must be a paramount concern,” she added, saying that her organization, Women’s Health is one in the campaign against Pax Silica.
For Pastor Allan Sarte, secretary general of Philippines-Palestine Friendship Association, Trump is the number one enabler of (then Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu that killed 70,000 citizens of Gaza, more than 20,000 of which are children. “We cannot in conscience welcome Trump in the Philippines,” he said.
American people rejects Trump
Not only the Filipinos are rejecting Trump, Bayan said the glaring defeat of Trump’s party in the U.S. midterm elections is a powerful boost to the Trump Out campaign.
“The Democratic Party’s landslide victory, wresting control of both Houses of Congress and defeating Republicans even in traditional strongholds like Texas, Kansas, and South Carolina, is a resounding repudiation of Trump and his rule,” the group said in a statement.
The group said the results of the election is a reflection of the growing disgust and rejection by the American people of Trump’s corrupt, authoritarian, war mongering, racist, anti-immigrant and over all anti-people policies. “They show that even in his own country, Trump faces mounting opposition to his disastrous leadership,” Bayan said.
The group expressed their solidarity with the American people who are resisting Trump’s attacks on their democratic rights, livelihoods, and welfare.
“They see through his collusion with his big corporate backers to enrich himself. They oppose his war on Iran and belligerence towards other countries’ sovereignty,” Bayan said. (RVO)
