We must always defend the right to vote in Black and Brown communities. Always. That is not in question.

But, at the end of the day, we must also acknowledge that voting doesn’t solve anything. Right? /s

    Elections cannot solve structural problems

Exactly. The only way to solve structural problems, is to put qualified people in charge who will implement the necessary changes. But, how? /s

France is where class struggles have led to the most dramatic changes, again and again.

Right. They’ve solved these problems so many times now over the last couple hundred years, that I’m sure they’ve gotten really good at it by now. /s

It kind of sounds like, if you keep putting the same kinds of people in charge, then it doesn’t matter how many protests you have…the structural problems never get solved. You can burn the whole country down, over and over again…but if you don’t have a strong democracy as a foundation…anything you build out of the ashes you just created, is not going to be any better than what you just burned down.

This isn’t an “either / or” situation. You need elections just as much as you need the right to raise hell, when your elected leaders fail to do their job. They serve us. Not the other way around.
