By CODEPINK and a large coalition of advocacy groups, November 4, 2026
Taxpayers from across the U.S. will gather in Washington, D.C., from November 10 to 12, 2026, to protest the proposed $1.5 trillion 2027 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Organized by CODEPINK and a large coalition of advocacy groups, the demonstration aims to put the country’s excessive and harmful military spending at the forefront of the national conversation after the midterms.
“The midterm elections were a nationwide condemnation of Trump and Hegseth’s horrible war in Iran. The Taxpayer Uprising is about creatively and beautifully making sure this current Congress doesn’t forget about it – because passing Trump’s war budget would mean green-lighting his reckless wars for the remainder of his presidency,” explained CODEPINK’s national co-director Danaka Katovich.
The three-day event will feature office visits with elected officials and visual demonstrations. Tentative schedule as follows:
- Tuesday, November 10: Senate Office Visits from 10 am- 4 pm: The group will kick off the first day of action at the Dirksen Cafeteria at 10 am. They will break off into specific advocacy groups and visit senators’ offices.
- Wednesday, November 11: Victims of the War Budget Processional, 10–2 pm, starting at Peace Monument.
- Thursday, November 12: House of Representatives office visits, 10 am-4 pm. The group will meet at the Rayburn Cafeteria at 10 am, then break into groups to visit their representatives’ offices. There will also be an Ice Cream Social with Ben & Jerry’s own Ben Cohen at 2pm at the Intersection of First Street SE and Independence Avenue SE.
Constituents from various states, including California and Texas, will join organizations like CODEPINK, World BEYOND War, RootsAction, National Priorities Project at the Institute for Policy Studies, Doctors Against Genocide, Climate Defenders, CAIR National, Eisenhower Media Network, National Iranian American Council, Fellowship of Reconciliation, American Muslims for Palestine, Veterans For Peace, DSA International Committee, and more in demanding a reallocation of funds towards domestic needs.
“We’ve tried voting our way to represent our overwhelming public preference for less war funding and more funding of human and environmental needs. Now let’s add the powerful tool of nonviolent activism. Now let’s make it harder to defy the people of this country than it is to defy the war profiteers.” – David Swanson, Co-Founder and Executive Director, World BEYOND War.
“Americans are increasingly recognizing the connection between funding the genocide in Gaza, the ongoing ethnic cleansing in the West Bank, Israel’s escalating aggression across the region, and the illegal war on Iran, and their own struggles to make ends meet and achieve economic mobility. Our lawmakers appear more concerned with appeasing the Israel lobby and war profiteers than listening to the majority of Americans, who do not want endless, unjustified wars and instead support greater investment in social welfare, education, healthcare, and workers’ rights. The Taxpayer Uprising is our way of continuing to build the political power necessary to secure a future that prioritizes people over war and invests in the well-being of our communities.” AMP executive director, Dr. Osama Abu Irshaid
The Trump Administration’s proposal marks the largest increase in military spending in modern history, prioritizing the war budget over human needs like healthcare, education, and housing. The proposed budget allocates about $116.43 million per hour to US warfare, ranging from illegal boat bombings in the Americas to the disastrous war in Iran. Half of that will go directly to contractors in the arms and AI industries. Meanwhile, nearly 45,000 Americans die annually due to lack of health insurance. Shifting even a small share of military spending to healthcare and social programs would save countless lives in the US and worldwide.
