Both nations established official ties in 1974, although since the 1960s a representative office of the Lao Patriotic Front had been operating in Havana, which was elevated to embassy status in 1965.
Since then, the two countries have maintained a close and fraternal link that geographical distance has not been able to prevent.
The bilateral collaboration focuses on health, education and sports sectors.
Dozens of Cuban doctors, nurses and health technicians provided services in the sister nation, while young Laosians traveled to Cuba to train in these specialties as well as in pedagogical institutes and the International School of Physical Education and Sports, and in technical careers.
