Members of the organization gathered at Simon Bolivar Plaza in Caracas to reiterate their call for the release of both individuals, whom they described as “prisoners of war of the United States.”

In a statement, the Committee condemned U.S. military aggression against Venezuela, asserting that the arrest of Maduro and Flores sets a dangerous precedent for international peace and security, while also violating the principles of state sovereignty and independence.

The statement affirmed the sovereign equality of nations, the self-determination of peoples, and the principle of non-intervention as fundamental norms of international law.   It rejected the notion that one government can unilaterally determine the fate of another or impose its authority through force.

Furthermore, the group argued that the operation targeting the president and his partner, Cilia Flores, is part of a Washington-led strategy aimed at controlling Venezuela’s natural wealth and strategic resources—a move they characterized as a plan for colonialist domination across the continent.

The organization reiterated its commitment to the Caribbean as a “zone of peace” and called for respect for the guarantees and protections that international law affords to the officials of other states.

On January 3 of this year, the United States launched a military attack against the South American nation; its leader and his wife were subsequently detained and transported to New York. The aggression resulted in more than a hundred deaths, including 32 Cuban nationals. jdt/las/mpv
