It serves as a window into the sporting and anthropological landscape of Cuba, while also exploring the journey of “an exceptional Cuban athlete at the 2024 Paris Olympics,” Almirante stated to the press. He was discussing the significance of the film *Mijain*, which received an Honorable Mention at the 44th International Festival of the Federation of Sports Cinema and Television, recently concluded in Milan, Italy.

A unique feature of this festival is that, following its conclusion in Italy, it embarks on an international tour, reaching diverse locations—including Nepal, Serbia, Sri Lanka, and the Czech Republic, as well as countries across Africa, Latin America, and Europe.

“It provides an opportunity to be seen in 14 other countries around the world,” noted Almirante, who co-directed the feature-length documentary alongside Ángel Alderete and sports journalist Hector Villar.

Premiering in 2025 and screened at the Havana International Festival of New Latin American Cinema, the film tells the story of Mijain Lopez. At the pinnacle of a legendary career, he prepares to face his greatest challenge: securing his fifth Olympic gold medal at the 2024 Paris Games.

According to the synopsis, the documentary closely follows his journey—from the rigors of training and the emotions of his team to memories of his hometown, Herradura.

Through the testimonies of his mother, Leonor Nunez; his coach, Raul Trujillo; and Mijain himself, the film reveals not only an undefeated champion but also a humble man, shaped by sacrifice and deep love for his family and community.

A story of willpower, legacy, and greatness—told from the innermost depths of someone who has defied time through sheer force of will—stands out.

As part of its international journey, the film has also been screened at the recently concluded BRICS+ International Film Festival in St. Petersburg, as well as in Paris and Rome.
