“I do not know if this year is realistic, but next year could be realistic, and 2028 could be realistic,” Pashinyan stated at an Euronews EU Enlargement Summit.

Aram Sargsyan, leader of the opposition Democratic Party of Armenia, said Pashinyan had begun to reconsider his stance on the republic’s accession to the EU.

In September, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Brussels would not fulfill its promises to the Armenian government over European integration.

Earlier this autumn, Pashinyan announced that Yerevan would not hold a referendum on whether to join the EU or remain within the Eurasian Economic Union, as leaders of the latter economic bloc had demanded earlier this year.
