The band, which performs folk and Latin American music, was founded two years ago and consists of seven students from one of Santiago’s most iconic schools.

Eduardo Ziede, a member of the musical band, told Prensa Latina, “We are here in solidarity with the Cuban children who are going through difficult times due to the US blockade; we must extend a helping hand to a sister nation.”

He noted that five of Chankaka’s members are grandchildren of individuals who were forcibly disappeared during the dictatorship (1973–1990), while the other two have embraced the struggle for truth and justice.

The “Concert for Cuba” took place at the Camilo Henriquez Theater, of the Santiago Press Cycle, and featured performances by Ingrid Guerra, Rosario Segovia, Claudio Nuñez, and the Aylla group.

Alexei Felizola, a counselor at the Cuban Embassy in Chile, expressed gratitude for this noble gesture, noting that his country is currently facing a difficult period resulting from a US blockade that has lasted more than six decades, and an energy siege.
