In the Oklahoma race for lieutenant governor, Republican T.W. Shannon is currently leading in the polls, according to the Oklahoma Secretary of State.

Shannon, Chickasaw, is running against Democrat Kelly Forbes.

If he wins, Shannon will be the second known Native person to be lieutenant governor, after Peggy Flanagan, White Earth Nation.

In his campaign for lieutenant governor in Oklahoma, Shannon says he is fighting to grow the economy, cut taxes, support farmers and back law enforcement.

He previously served as Oklahoma House Speaker, Chickasaw Community Bank CEO and chair of Black Voices for Trump. Shannon is endorsed by President Trump.

“T.W. Shannon is running for Lieutenant Governor to bring proven leadership, conservative principles,” his campaign website states.

Shannon is one of nearly a dozen Native candidates running for statewide offices, including Deb Haaland.
