Tuesday is the second day of action of “Global Resistance Week to Stop U.S. Imperialism and Genocide (Nov 1-7),”  a kick-off week for a new anti-war, anti-genocide international coalition. Japan joins the U.S., UK, Italy, and Germany in this growing coalition.

Today’s actions will include two commute-hour protests at Nellis AFB, a U.S. drone base that collaborates with Creech AFB in the illegal U.S. targeted assassination drone program, and an action in Beppu, Japan: “Don’t Get Children Used to War,” to protest the public event to display and glorify a helicopter-carrying destroyer.

Report from yesterday’s blockade at RAF Lakenheath in UK, a UK air force base that is used exclusively by the the US Air Force:

The global coalition is collectively staging nonviolent protests at the many institutions that facilitate, profit from and/or drive US wars and genocide: military bases, weapons manufacturers, weapons shipping ports, and an AI Data Center.  There are over 25 organizations planning and sponsoring actions across the U.S. and Europe this week, initiating a mission to collectively organize ongoing actions and protests at the institutions and entities that drive U.S. wars and genocide.

The week will include at least 21 global actions in five countries during this first week of resistance, including a torchlight parade at a U.S. army installation in Vicenza, Italy, an Arms Embargo action at Houston Port, Texas (complicit in weapons shipment), seven U.S. drone base actions, a U.S. nuclear weapons base action in New Mexico, a banner drop at Travis AFB, California, (complicit in shipping weapons to Israel), a major protest at an AI Data Center in Southern New Mexico, a two-hour protest at the San Francisco Israeli consulate, and numerous actions at other bases and weapons-making sites.

In addition, some organizers have prepared flyers to handout to people at U.S. military bases and other locations.  Many of the military base protests will promote Veterans For Peace’s new campaign, Refuse Illegal Orders, calling on members of the U.S. military to disobey illegal orders. An additional website has been created to help connect U.S. military personnel with important resources and organizations that provide counseling and can assist them with becoming Conscientious Objectors: ASKtheVETS.org

These services are critical at a time when many military personnel are deeply conflicted as they witness the increasing illegality of U.S. foreign policies and conflicts. The recent numerous suicide attempts off U.S. Navy carriers in the Persian Gulf exemplify this urgent need.

The decades-long genocide against the people of Palestine will be front and center during many of this week’s protests.
