The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that it is already providing consular assistance to the victim’s family and is working on the necessary arrangements for the repatriation of the remains to Mexico.

Days earlier, President Claudia Sheinbaum had indicated that eight Mexicans were traveling on one of the two trains involved in the accident. Seven were injured, and one remained missing until his death was confirmed.

Calvillo was traveling with his husband, U.S. citizen Lawrence Naff, who survived the accident but suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital for medical treatment.

Spanish forensic authorities have identified 66 of the 69 victims through fingerprints and genetic analysis. The Mexican Foreign Ministry publicly thanked Spanish authorities for their support during the search.

The accident, considered one of the worst recently recorded on the Spanish rail network, involved a Renfe high-speed train and an Iryo train, resulting in derailments and numerous casualties.
