The Soviet War Cemetery in Leusden, the Netherlands, has once again been targeted by anti-communist vandals, in another despicable attack on the memory of those who suffered and died under Nazism.

The latest desecration, which took place on October 31, follows a similar incident in July and has been strongly condemned by Dutch communists.

Unidentified perpetrators defaced the cemetery’s memorial wall and obelisk with anti-communist and xenophobic slogans, including “Not against Russians, but against commies” and “Fuck refugees.” The graffiti suggests a possible neo-Nazi motivation, although those responsible have not been identified. The cemetery contains the graves of 865 Soviet war victims, including Red Army soldiers and prisoners of war.

In July 2026, approximately 150 gravestones and memorial structures at the same cemetery were vandalized with explicitly neo-Nazi and anti-communist graffiti, including “White Power,” “NS/WP” (National Socialism/White Power) and “Fuck Communism.” The New Communist Party of the Netherlands (NCPN) had strongly condemned that attack.

In a statement published on November 1, the Communist Party of the Netherlands (CPN) denounced the latest outrage, warning against the growing influence of fascist and far-right forces.

The party also condemned the anti-communist historical revisionism promoted by the Dutch state and the European Union, particularly attempts to equate communism with fascism, arguing that such distortions undermine the memory of the anti-fascist struggle.

The Dutch communists emphasized that no amount of fascist vandalism can erase the decisive contribution of the Soviet Red Army to the defeat of Nazi Germany. While communists sacrificed their lives fighting the Nazi occupiers, fascist collaborators served them.

The CPN has once again offered to assist the Soviet War Cemetery Foundation in restoring the damaged monuments.

“Not then, not now, never again fascism! No pasarán!” the party declared.
