ECONOMISTS expect the Bank of England to hike interest rates for the first time in more than three years on Thursday.

Traders believe its Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) will announce an increase in borrowing costs from 3.75 to 4 per cent.

This would be the first time the central bank has increased borrowing costs since August 2023, and follows reports that the Bank may ease restrictions on higher-risk mortgage loans.
