INDIA’S opposition parties have stepped up pressure for the resignation of chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, staging a fresh protest today in the latest display of public anger at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government.

The demonstration, called by opposition bloc India, was joined by tens of thousands of people, some carrying musical instruments and waving various flags, as they chanted slogans against the policies of the central government.
