Mexico City, October 28 (SinEmbargo).- The United States (US) Ambassador to Mexico, Ronald Johnson, stated this Wednesday that the government headed by Donald Trump has no intention of bombing Mexican territory by designating the drug cartels as terrorist organizations. He also stressed that there should be no fear in recognizing that both countries are good partners.
The US diplomat spoke about the bilateral relationship on security during his participation in the Milken Institute Global Investors Symposium, held at a hotel in Mexico City (CDMX).
In his remarks, Johnson explained that by designating organized crime groups, such as the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and the Sinaloa Cartel, among others, as terrorist organizations, the Trump administration does not intend to launch bomb attacks on Mexican territory, but rather it is a measure that seeks to track them internationally and apply financial sanctions against them.
“The purpose was to be able to employ other mechanisms, such as financial tools, economic sanctions, measures against support for terrorism to address the network in its entirety, since the cartels do not operate only in Mexico, they are present in Europe, Asia and South America. They even extend into the United States. We wanted to apply legal tools to confront this problem,” he said.

The Ambassador also acknowledged that cooperation between Mexico and the United States on security is currently at one of its best moments, mentioning that “we are in a better situation than at any other time in my life; however, there is still much room to keep making progress.”
Ambassador Asks Not to Be Afraid to Recognize the Good Relationship Between Mexico and the US
As part of his message, Ronald Johnson asked not to be afraid to recognize that Mexico and the United States are good partners since, in his opinion, there are times when some prefer not to express that a good bilateral relationship exists.
Let us not be afraid to say that we are partners, that we have common interests and that we are working together. I do not intend to point at either side, but sometimes there is a certain reluctance to recognize it. It would be a great help if we simply accepted this partnership and saw everything we can achieve as North America, because we have it all. We have everything others want; it is here.

On this subject, the US diplomat mentioned that China would be “very happy” if “Mexico fell into chaos, instability or insecurity, especially on the southern border of the United States.”
