Tens of thousands of workers, students and dockworkers took to the streets across Italy in a nationwide general strike on Friday against soaring living costs, low wages and military spending. The general strike coincided with an international day of action against militarization and genocide which saw dockworkers across five continents and more than 110 ports take action against arms shipments to Israel. In Genoa, dockworkers blockaded the port at dawn before marching back in with some 15,000 people behind them. “Workers and students are demanding one thing,” protester Valerio Villanova with Potere al Popolo said: “Money for public health, public transport, care for the environment, and wages — not bombs.”
