Mexico City, October 28 (SinEmbargo).- President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo (CSP) and former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) mourned the death of Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas, whom they described as a forerunner of the democratic movement and as someone who transformed the political life of Mexico.
The Engineer died this Wednesday, October 28, at 92 years of age, and after his passing a wave of messages arose from figures of all parties to express their condolences and recognize his legacy in the political life of the country.
President Claudia Sheinbaum was one of the first to mourn his death with a message published on her social networks, in which she highlighted that Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas was “always faithful to the defense of national sovereignty and social causes. His dignity and republican conviction remain an indispensable reference point for our nation.”
“With deep sorrow we mourn the passing of Engineer Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas Solórzano, a man of firm principles, who transformed the political life of our country. Former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who since his retirement from political life has only been seen a couple of times, reappeared on social media for the third time since 2018 to mourn the death of Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas, whom he called “a transformer.”
I send a hug to family, friends and compañeros for the regrettable passing of Engineer Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas Solórzano, forerunner of the democratic movement in the recent history of Mexico. Without him, the political reality of the country would be different. He was a transformer; he leaves us his teachings and the ideals that never die.

Leaders of All Parties Mourn the Death of Cárdenas
The leaderships of all political parties also shared messages on their social networks to recognize the legacy of Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas as a reference point of Mexican politics.
Ariadna Montiel, leader of Morena, highlighted in her post that the Engineer’s career “is part of the democratic memory of our nation.”
“His participation in the historic struggle of 1988 opened new paths for the Mexican left and contributed to transforming the political life of the country. His legacy is linked to the defense of the vote and the right of the people to freely decide their destiny. From the tradition of nationalism, he upheld fundamental causes of our history: sovereignty, the defense of the national patrimony and social justice,” her message reads.
Also mourning the death of Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas was Alejandro “Alito” Moreno, leader of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), the party to which the Engineer belonged and with which he broke to form the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD).
“I deeply regret the passing of Eng. Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas Solórzano, an outstanding figure of Mexico’s political life, whose career left an important mark on the democratic history of our country,” the PRI leader posted.

Jorge Álvarez Máynez, leader of Movimiento Ciudadano, shared a series of photographs on his Facebook account in which he appears alongside Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas, with a message in which he said that “being a Cardenista is being on the right side of history.”
“The history of the 20th century is the history of Lázaro and Cuauhtémoc: the struggle for economic equality and political equality. The struggle for democracy. Rest in peace,” he posted.
The newly created party Somos, led by Guadalupe Acosta Naranjo, who was also leader of the PRD, the party founded by Cárdenas Solórzano, mourned the Engineer’s death, asserting that “with his passing we all lose. Democracy loses. Mexico loses.”
“Somos mourns the sad passing of Engineer Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas Solórzano, a fundamental pillar of the construction of modern democracy in Mexico and a statesman who always knew how to put the interests of the country above any personal aspiration,” reads its Facebook post.
