“This is Eric Garner. This is Sandra Bland. This is police covering for police who kill Black people.” Koran Irvine, a Black father of two and Con Edison worker, was killed by retired NYPD officer Victor Romero in an apparent road rage shooting last week. Irvine was on his way home to his family on the George Washington Bridge. On Tuesday, members of UWUA Local 1-2, Irvine’s union, held a rally with members of his family demanding answers from the city representatives – who they still have not heard from. At his indictment earlier that day, Romero’s charges were upgraded to second-degree murder from manslaughter. Despite these charges, he is currently walking free after posting a $1 million bail. Irvine’s family is calling for him to be remanded and sent back to jail. BT’s @radiofreeamanda reports from Manhattan’s Foley Square.
