AN EGYPTIAN film has won this year’s Golden Star, the highest honour in the narrative competition, at the 9th edition of the El Gouna Film Festival, Egypt. Safe Exit, directed by Mohamed Hammad, offers a poignant exploration of contemporary Egyptian youth struggling with generational violence, economic hardship, and political turmoil. The film revolves around Samaan, a young worker and night security guard, who leads a monotonous life behind the security cameras of a multi-use building. Taciturn and apathetic, Samaan fills his free time with diary entries.
