FORMER England off-spinner Gareth Batty has stepped down as Surrey head coach to take up a position as an assistant at Indian Premier League side Chennai Super Kings.

The 49-year-old was an outside contender for the England Test job after Brendon McCullum’s sacking before Stephen Fleming, who stepped down from Chennai Super Kings (CSK) after 18 seasons in July, was appointed to the post.
