THE international community has issued a dire warning that war-torn Sudan is at risk of famine.

In Monday’s joint statement, more than 30 countries including Australia, Canada, Britain, France, Germany, the United States and the EU warned of an alarming deterioration in food security in the African country, calling for urgent action to prevent famine.

The statement called on the groups fighting Sudan’s civil war “to lift all impediments on humanitarian assistance.”
