Cuban Consul in Colombia, Daily Francisco, highlighted the significance of this observance, emphasizing the power of culture to forge bonds and keep both national identity and a deep connection to the homeland alive.
Alejandro Martinez, president of the Association of Cubans Residing in Colombia, noted the warm reception the event received among the island’s expatriate community.
The gathering, held at the restaurant Ilhe Habana, brought together musicians, dancers, and other promoters of the island’s arts. The program featured a diverse repertoire, including iconic works by composers such as Ernesto Lecuona, Francisco Repilado (Compay Segundo), Maria Teresa Vera, Jose Antonio Mendez, Silvio Rodriguez, and Pablo Milanes, among others.
Musicians Pedro Herminio, Marcel Pimienta, and Daniel Herrera gave it for the audience’s delight, getting the audience to dance and sing along to songs like “La Guantanamera” and other pieces representative of the country’s history.
