Activists told Prensa Latina that the many folded action includes denouncing the moves by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who is resorting to pressure and blackmail to undermine support for a resolution—to be presented by Cuba on October 28—against Washington’s embargo.
They will also denounce sanctions targeting entities in third countries that maintain, or seek to establish, commercial ties with Cuban organizations.
Furthermore, they will inform passersby about the hardships endured by the people of the largest of the Antilles due to the energy blockade to which they are being subjected.
Through slogans and banners, the MCSC will highlight the harm caused by the “unjustifiable inclusion of Cuba on the U.S. State Department’s list of state sponsors of terrorism, the aggressive financial persecution, and the enforcement of laws that codify the blockade.”
They will also condemn a media campaign that promotes the “failed state” narrative—a strategy aimed at establishing and justifying the idea of direct military action against Cuba.
In a statement released this week, members of the organization made their position clear:
“We reject the threat of using force to dismantle the Cuban political and economic system. We reject the lies, slanders, and threats directed against the Army General—a defender of Latin America and the Caribbean as a ‘Zone of Peace.’
The peoples of the world stand in defense of Raul Castro,” they asserted.
The sit-in held also seeks to urge the Colombian government to recognize Cuba’s struggle in defense of peace and to vote in favor of its people on October 28 at the United Nations.
