NOW: Members of Brazil’s Landless Workers’ Movement (MST) celebrate the victory of progressive Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva at São Paulo’s Elza Soares Cultural Space. Lula clinched the victory with 51.7% of the votes to Flávio Bolsonaro’s 48.2%, a bigger margin than the latter had achieved in the first round of elections. The MST and other left movements in Brazil had heavily participated in Lula’s campaign, sounding the alarm that a Bolsonaro presidency would bring attacks on workers’ rights, further destruction of the Amazon and the environment, and the undermining of Brazil’s sovereignty.
