The film explores the history and significance of the ballet “Afternoon Echoes,” created by choreographer Alberto Mendez in 1973 and considered one of the most important pieces in the repertoire of the National Ballet of Cuba (BNC).

It shows the links between dance, painting, and cinema, taking as a reference point the influence attributed to the painting “The Noon,” by Cuban painter Guillermo Collazo, on the conception of the choreographic work.

According to its director, the documentary constitutes a tribute to generations of dancers, choreographers, and artists who contributed to the formation and consolidation of the Cuban School of Ballet.

The text reads, “The Camaguey Contemporary Ballet, within the framework of the Cuban Culture Week, presented the ‘Escape’ event, which is a window of creation where the dancers reaffirm that artistic dedication goes beyond any obstacle.”

The production also highlights the historic collaborative relationship between the BNC and the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC), reflected in numerous audiovisual works dedicated to dance.

Among the central elements of the narrative are the testimonies of prominent figures associated with ballet, including Maria Elena Llorente, one of the most renowned performers of “Afternoon Echoes,” to whose memory the documentary is dedicated.

ICAIC president Alexis Triana emphasized that this production inaugurates a new line of work within the institution’s Documentary Department, focused on exploring topics related to Cuban culture and history.
