Communist parties in Mexico, Peru and Brazil have strongly condemned the latest US judicial offensive against Raúl Castro, denouncing the arrest warrant issued by Florida authorities on October 19 as another act of imperialist aggression against socialist Cuba. In separate statements, the three parties expressed solidarity with the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution and rejected Washington’s continuing attempts to intimidate and undermine the Cuban people.
The Communist Party of Mexico (PCM), in a statement issued on October 21, denounced the Florida authorities’ action as part of a broader campaign of aggression and intervention by US imperialism. The party stressed that Raúl Castro remains a symbol of the Cuban people’s struggle against imperialism and for socialism, accusing Washington of attempting to tarnish his revolutionary legacy.
The PCM also linked the judicial proceedings to renewed anti-Cuban provocations at the United Nations, ahead of the General Assembly’s vote on the US blockade. It condemned the activities of counterrevolutionary groups based in Miami and reaffirmed its confidence in the resistance of the Cuban people and the strength of international proletarian solidarity.
In Peru, the Communist Party of Peru – Patria Roja issued a statement on October 19 describing the arrest warrant as another episode of political and judicial harassment against Cuba. Its Political Bureau denounced the intensification of the economic, commercial, financial and energy blockade, demanding an immediate end to US aggression and full respect for Cuban sovereignty.
The Brazilian Communist Party (PCB) was equally emphatic. In a statement dated October 20 and published on October 22, the party rejected the legitimacy of the Florida proceedings, arguing that US authorities have no jurisdiction to prosecute a Cuban citizen for actions undertaken in the exercise of his official duties under Cuban sovereignty.
The PCB reaffirmed its solidarity with Raúl Castro, the Cuban working class, the Cuban government and the Communist Party of Cuba. It placed the latest measures within Washington’s longstanding campaign against the Cuban Revolution, declaring its opposition to US interventionism throughout Latin America.
