To address the legitimate demands of the workers of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), that institution must carry out a “digital revolution” similar to the one being carried out at IMSS-Bienestar. The objective is to streamline procedures and de-bureaucratize processes for the benefit of staff and beneficiaries, said President Claudia Sheinbaum. However, she stressed, this transformation will require the collaboration of the workers’ union.
During her press conference, hours before IMSS director Zoé Robledo announced the new salary increase proposal for the institute’s staff, the President explained that for one week work was done to identify areas of opportunity where the agency could make adjustments to obtain savings that will make it possible to offer workers a larger salary increase.
Beyond the propaganda they have tried to make out of all this, there are other demands of IMSS workers that are legitimate and that have to be addressed, such as having the necessary materials at the time of performing a surgical operation.

Addressing the conflict with IMSS workers, the President highlighted that intense work was done to offer a new proposal.
She stressed that substantial adjustments must be made to the IMSS’s operational processes, because there are inertias that come “from a very long time ago –they are not Zoe’s–, that should not be,” since what matters is an institutional functioning that makes it possible to improve working conditions for doctors, nursing staff and ultimately the service for beneficiaries.
Sheinbaum insisted that to address the current situation, a comprehensive proposal for the modernization of the agency will be promoted.
