The Israeli military commander accused of ordering the killing of Hind Rajab has been on holiday in the US – prompting calls for his arrest.

The Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF) filed a request to the US Department of Justice on 19 October to prosecute Sean Glass, who they accuse of war crimes and genocide in Gaza.

Glass recently uploaded photos and videos to social media from New York’s Central Park and Times Square, as well as an ice hockey game at Madison Square Gardens.

The foundation alleged that Glass commanded the “Vampire Empire” company of the Israeli military’s 52nd Armored Battalion, whose troops were implicated in the 2024 killing of five-year-old Rajab, alongside members of her family and paramedics sent to rescue them.

HRF said its investigation places Glass and his troops “in the direct vicinity of Hind’s vehicle” during the attack and added that the order to open fire on her family car was “most likely” given by Glass.

The filing also links Glass’s unit to the assault on Al-Shifa Hospital, the destruction of UNRWA headquarters, the razing of residential neighbourhoods and the destruction of the Rafah Crossing, a crucial lifeline for humanitarian aid into Gaza.

HRF says that Glass has publicly documented his role in the genocide in social media posts, interviews and a self-published book.

“The evidence in this file is damning and it is extensive,” said Natacha Bracq, HRF’s head of litigation, citing geolocated imagery, forensic analysis and Glass’s own public statements.

Jake Romm, HRF’s US representative, said: “Congress and successive administrations promised that the United States would never be a refuge for war criminals. Instead, it has condoned and aided their crimes.”

He added: “Glass and his company are responsible for some of the worst atrocities of this genocide – that he now walks free and unbothered in the US is not only an insult to his victims, but to all people of conscience here in the US as well.”
