"They’re killing you because you’re under a class system.” BT sat down with Marquell Bridges, a Mississippi-based community organizer working with the family of Kohen Wiley, who was sitting on his mother’s lap inside a car in a Walmart parking lot when he was shot and killed by Senatobia Police Officer Hunter Foster in June. Bridges, who joined Kohen’s father Daveon Williams and other grieving families in St. Paul for the March for Stolen lives, said the officers responding to a shoplifting call over an alleged diaper theft were informed three times that there was a baby present before Foster opened fire, including when Kohen’s mother Vellesiya Wiley held the boy up to show him to police. No charges have been filed against Vellesiya Wiley or the driver of the vehicle, who was also injured in the shooting. Demands for the release of police and surveillance video are growing across the US, after Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch’s office announced Monday it had determined Foster’s use of force was justified — meaning he will not face criminal charges for killing the baby.
