The Cuban delegation to the United Nations, led by special envoy Ernesto Soberón Guzmán, confronted US ambassador Mike Waltz at the UN headquarters on Monday. The Cuban ambassadors shouted “Liars!” and “Down with the blockade!” at the US envoy and his entourage. The US envoy was holding a meeting titled “Cuba Libre: The Oppression Havana Hides,” ahead of the upcoming annual debate and vote on the US economic and trade blockade against Cuba. Cuban ambassadors have accused the US of blackmailing other countries into changing their vote on the UN resolution. After more than six decades of the blockade, the Trump administration imposed an oil blockade on Cuba in January that has caused severe shortages of electricity, medicine, and food in the country.
