Hundreds of thousands took to the streets across France on Saturday against rising living costs, stagnant wages, and police brutality – heaping pressure on President Emmanuel Macron’s government ahead of the presidential election in April. The demonstrations follow weeks of student-led revolts over education funding and police conduct, with labor unions and Yellow Vest supporters joining the calls for higher wages, lower prices, and improved public services. According to organizers and France’s General Confederation of Labor union, around 800,000 people participated in nationwide protests and strikes on Saturday. The Interior Ministry said at least 166 people were detained nationwide.
