On March 28, 2026—two months after Trump’s gestapo forces murdered Alex Pretti and Renée Good—nearly 9 million people took to the streets to declare “No Kings” for the third time. The progressive organization behind the protest, Indivisible, declared it the largest single-day demonstration in American history.

I mean we did get through what I’d say is the worst of it, the initial phase of No Kings is supposed to be about lowering the bar to entry for movement building, showing that resistance is possible, let Trump fuck up his own image of his term with the Iran war and stuff, mock the administration’s Trumpy tantrums and simply refuse to bow down to fascism unopposed.
I think all Americans should be ready for a second phase, a call-to-action. If in the meantime, say Chicago and Mayor Brandon Johnson wants to start a general strike in response to ICE activity for example, the national movement can support them, but it’s tough to go from an occasional national banner-waving event to a national strike. I think the role of the national movement for now, until Nov 3rd, should be electoral politics. Then, it should be practical action to ensure the peaceful transfer of Congress’ power. Then, it should be forming demands and ensuring Congresspeople follow through with it. I think a wider strike should be prepared, timed for around when a government shutdown fight is more likely to happen then not in the next couple years. A strike fund can be started, and plans can be made. That will make it clear who the pressure is directed to.
