A victory for community defense: ICE agents in Ventura County, California were completely surrounded and confronted by furious community members and stopped from arresting a mother and father on their way to work, with their children in the back seat of their car. Dozens of community members had joined rapid responders from VC Defensa to push federal immigration officers out of the neighborhood on Monday evening. DHS continues to deny its 45-day Operation Safe California surge, which began on October 5 and has seen increased ICE presence in designated sanctuary cities and communities up and down the state’s coastline, with sources reporting that ICE agents were instructed to “go after anybody.” Community defense organizations like VC Defensa have reported hundreds of detentions and arrests in the last week in the Central Valley and Southern California.
