Here is a video of a WBW webinar with Denis Halliday:

Notice of death from this website:

Denis J. Halliday, son of the late Stanley and Kathleen of Terenure, Dublin 6 and Errislannan, Co. Galway, brother of the late Leo, died peacefully in the presence of his family on 11th October 2026.

Deeply loved and treasured by Fransisca, Keaton and Lena, Leo and Eileen, Orla, Niamh and Vincent, Paul, Aiden, Jasmine and Nichole.

Lovingly cherished by his extended family and friends, colleagues, his fellow Friends and many more around the world.

Remembered always for the courage of his convictions, his integrity and kindness. A sane voice in an insane world, and one needed now more than ever. A rare man who stood for what was right, even at personal cost.

With Denis’s departure, our consciences are quietened, yet awakened. May we keep a part of his voice alive in our own by speaking out when others stay silent.

Denis began a life of service as a Friends (Quaker) volunteer in Kenya, followed by 34 years with the United Nations, where he rose to Assistant Secretary-General and served as Humanitarian Coordinator in Iraq. His resignation in 1998, in protest of the Iraqi sanctions, marked not an end but a new chapter. Denis continued to devote himself to peace and human rights. His work was recognised with the Gandhi International Peace Award in 2003.

Denis was not only a voice for peace but an active participant, he sailed in 2010 on the MV Rachel Corrie, the Irish aid ship that sought to break the blockade of Gaza.

At home in Ireland Denis was a steadfast advocate of Irish neutrality, opposing the use of Shannon Airport by US military aircraft. He lent his voice to countless other causes, and through it all, his commitment to humanity and accountability never wavered.

Denis will be remembered at Churchtown Friend’s Meeting House, Religious Society of Friends, Dublin 14, D14 F620 on Tuesday (20th October) from 10.30am to 11.30am followed by private burial.

Family flowers only please. Donations, if desired, to Barnardos or the NSPCA.

Due to limited parking in the area, public transport is recommended to reach the Meeting House. Luas stop, Windy Arbour, located 200 metres away.
