During a joint press conference with the Director-General of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), Sabrina Dallafior, the foreign minister denounced that Israeli actions against Syria have persisted since December 8, 2024—the date of the fall of Bashar Al-Assad’s government—according to the official agency SANA.

Al-Shaibani noted that these actions include bombing infrastructure, occupying new Syrian territories along the southern border, and engaging in practices that cause the displacement and arbitrary detention of Syrian citizens whose whereabouts remain unknown.

Regarding Al-Suwayda, the Syrian top diplomat upheld that Israel supports illegal armed militias and provides them with resources to boost chaos in the region.

This southern governorate has experienced security tensions since July 2025, when clashes broke out between local groups and Bedouin tribes—a situation also marked by Israeli attacks on Syrian territory—prompting a call for the international community to intervene and halt Israeli actions.

On the diplomatic front, Al-Shaibani called on Israel to engage seriously in US-sponsored negotiations aimed at reaching an agreement that respects Syria’s security and sovereignty.

The Syrian side reaffirmed its right to rebuild its national army, develop its capabilities, and establish alliances in accordance with its interests, without accepting provisions that limit its sovereignty.
