The panel “New Issues in Cuban Archaeology” brings together Racso Fernandez, Dany Morales, Yadira Chinique, Jorge Garcell, and Silvia Hernandez with exhibitions on rock art in Fustete 02 cave and the pathological conditions of human remains from Playa de Mango site in eastern Cuba.

Other topics include breastfeeding practices in colonialism at El Chorro de Maita in Holguin province, the archaeological record of Bacuranao I site in Cueva del Infierno in Mayabeque, and the first radiocarbon dating of canoes in Cuba.

The documentary “En Busca de los Indios del Caribe” (In Search of Indians in the Caribbean), written and directed by Marie Linton (Kami Productions-Inrap, 2026), by Cuban archaeologist Racso Fernandez, will be screened to round up the day.

The cultural center stated on social media that Tuesday’s sessions focused on revitalizing the Nahuatl language, community experiences with the Tosepan Cooperative Union, and struggles for territorial and cultural rights.

The Colloquium runs until October 15, supported by the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation. Presentations will be available on Casa de las Americas’ YouTube channel.
