PRECARIOUS low-paid jobs are pushing millions of people into debt and forcing them to use foodbanks, according to a new report in what union leaders have called a “national scandal.”
Citizens Advice said it had discovered the shocking scale of uncertain low-paid employment, including people stuck on temporary or zero-hours contracts or on low pay rates.
The charity said 5.6 million workers in Britain were “at the mercy” of insecure work.
A third of workers aged 18 to 24 were in this type of work, while those who were disabled were also over-represented.
