Bolsonaro Judge Suspends 3 Million Strong Lula WhatsApp Channel

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRASIL - Earlier today, Brazilian Supreme Electoral Court (TSE) Chief Kassio Nunes Marques, a Brazilian Supreme Court Justice, decided to suspend a WhatsApp group called “Lula’s Army”, which had over 3 million members.

The channel run by Workers Party Congressman André Janones was the most popular Lula channel on WhatsApp. Nunes Marques claimed that the group was spreading fake news about Flavio Bolsonaro.

Jair Bolsonaro appointed Nunes Marques, and he has been repeatedly accused of censoring left-wing viewpoints online during the election.

However, a few hours later, a larger panel of the Brazilian Supreme Court overturned the banning of the channel.

“The ‘Lula’s Army’ channel stays. The TSE has just overturned Kassio Nunes Marques’s decision, showing that no one can silence the voice of a people when they unite, and that we will not allow censorship in Brazil,” said Congressman Janones in a statement. “Let’s celebrate! This victory isn’t mine. This victory belongs to you. This victory belongs to President Lula. It is a victory for democracy”.
