The Brazilian president and candidate for re-election, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, denounced as an alleged interference of electoral justice against him by the closure of a WhatsApp channel called ‘Lula’s Army’, which had more than three million followers and was dedicated to promoting its campaign for re-election.

It is not possible that electoral justice does not have the civilized and republican attitude of allowing elections to occur without interference, he said in statements to the press, before adding that he will take the case to court.

The president of the Superior Electoral Court, Kassio Nunes Marques, today accepted the arguments of the campaign of the far-right Flávio Bolsonaro, who requested the closure of the channel for allegedly spreading false news about his candidacy.

In his decision, Nunes Marques, appointed by former president Jair Bolsonaro, father of the candidate, determined the suspension of the channel until after the second round of elections on October 25.

After coming in second in the first round held last Sunday, Lula is now trying to reinforce his presence on social networks to achieve a comeback against his rival.

In addition, the progressive leader’s campaign denounced on Saturday that Meta, the multinational that controls Instagram and Facebook, has limited the reach of its publications, supposedly to favor Bolsonaro.

Meta, according to the president’s own campaign, attributed the problems to technical failures that other users have also suffered.
