ANDY BURNHAM is trying to push through new laws that would see ID checks removed at polling stations as his advisers encourage him to call for an early general election, according to reports.

Under laws introduced by the Conservatives in 2023, voters must provide photo ID before they can vote, a move that was widely criticised as deterring potential voters and disproportionately hitting marginalised groups.

New proposals drafted in the Representation of the People Bill would mean people only have to provide a bank card at polling stations, it is reported.
