PAKISTANI President Asif Ali Zardari declared a state of emergency in opposition-controlled Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province today.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi accused the provincial government of neglecting counter-terrorism efforts while focusing on securing the release of PTI party leader and former PM Imran Khan.

Mr Naqvi said delays in decision-making and poor co-ordination between Islamabad and the provincial government had allowed militants to gain ground, prompting the decision to impose an emergency in the province.
