Why are mainstream progressive politicians like Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), and Zohran Mamdani constantly talking about “oligarchy,” but almost never using the word “capitalism?” In this video we break down the propagandistic nature of the rhetoric behind progressive reformism, social democracy, and the deliberate suppression of working-class consciousness in American politics. From Bernie Sanders’ “Fight Oligarchy” tour to rhetoric from figures like Dr. Abdul El-Sayed and Graham Platner, progressives frequently target “the billionaire class,” “corporate greed,” and “uber-capitalism.” But by focusing strictly on quantitative wealth inequality rather than the fundamental relations of production, property, and class struggle, progressive liberals offer solutions that attempt to restrain capitalism rather than abolish the exploitation inherent to class society. In this video we explore: • The critical difference between critiquing “oligarchy” versus confronting “capitalism.” • How Marx and Engels addressed “bourgeois socialism” and “petty-bourgeois socialism” in The Communist Manifesto. • The historical legacy of socialist leaders like Eugene V. Debs and his direct, uncompromising stance against the capitalist class. • The myth of “hiding your power level” in mainstream politics and why building open, transparent class consciousness is essential for revolutionary change according to Marxist-Leninist theory. • How “crony capitalism,” “casino capitalism,” and “unfettered capitalism” serve as rhetorical deceptions that underhandedly legitimize the capitalist system itself. As always, our analysis is grounded in the analytical methodologies of Dialectical and Historical Materialism.
