US PROSECUTORS have unveiled sweeping charges against abducted Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, accusing him and his wife of a state-sponsored system of repression.

The indictment alleges the Maduro government subjected more than a dozen US citizens to torture while they were held in Venezuelan custody.

The FBI said the alleged abuses include the use of drugs, electrocution and sexual assault.

It claims that thousands of Venezuelans were threatened, arrested, tortured or killed at the hands of the state between 1999 and 2025.
